Coochbehar: On the initiative of Vishwa Hindu Parishad, a Ram Navami procession was taken out in Coochbehar city. The procession begins from the city’s Rasmela ground. Touring the city Minister of State for Home Nishith Pramanik participated in the Ramnabami procession of Vishwa Hindu Parishad on this day. Nikhil Ranjan Dev, MLA from South Assembly Constituency, Mihir Goswami, MLA from Natbari Assembly Constituency, Malti Rao Rai, MLA from Tufanganj Assembly Constituency were present with him.

“It is our tradition. People have been celebrating Ram Navami since ages. Minister Nishith Pramanik said to participate in the Ram Navami procession. Ram Navami is being celebrated today in the country and the state. Why is Ram Navami celebrated? The day is celebrated as Ram Navami in different parts of the country. On this day Lord Rama was born as the son of King Dasaratha and Queen Kaushalya. Hence the day is celebrated as Ram Navami. Many people believe that Lord Vishnu took birth on earth as a human incarnation to end the tyranny of the Asuras. Vishnu came in human form specifically to punish Ravana, the king of Lanka. Ravana got a boon. The deities fought against him Vishnu came to earth in human form. He defeated Ravana in a war to protect Dharma on earth. Ravana also lost his life in that war.

Meanwhile, in Tufanganj, the police have been accused of obstructing the Ramnambami procession. The Ram Navami procession was stopped by the police at Shalbari in Tufanganj. Activists and supporters of Vishwa Hindu Parishad expressed anger on the police. The incident created temporary tension in the area. After a long scuffle, the procession was allowed for some time.
